Odos Books, is a small publishing company that I help run. The author Paul Brennan translates and interprets ancient Chinese texts and self-publishes them. I have helped with the book layouts and the final cover designs, which his brother Tom Washbush designed. Primarily I provide technical assistance, getting the books to print and providing publicity through Paul’s website, which I designed and maintain.
Judy Washbush had written down her family’s oral and hidden history and desired to publish it as a small chap book for her siblings, children, nieces and nephews. Judy wanted photos to compliment the text. I helped her to decided which images to use and where to place them in the text. I then went about restoring each picture, some of which had considerable damage, and then doing the final layout of the book.
Tom DeKrey is a local architect. He was restoring an old house and in the walls he found an old daybill for the movie The Yellow Passport. This movie was released in February of 1916 and played at the Palace Theatre. Whoever lived in the house at the time must have gone to the film and kept the daybill as a remembrance; 91 years later the daybill was found, but it was in quite bad shape. I painstakingly restored the image in Photoshop to get it as close to its original condition as possible. It has since been framed and hangs in the home as a glimpse into the house’s past.
